Capital Sprints Regatta (“Cap Sprints”) began fourteen years ago as a scrimmage among cross-town rivals and has grown into a summer racing tradition for rowing teams all over the D.C. area and up and down the East Coast. Each year, more than 200 youth and adult athletes with various physical ability compete in 30 plus rowing categories during the day-long event, capped with music and sometimes a post-race BBQ. This year will be the inaugural year of the Robert E. Day Jr. Cap Sprints, to honor his legacy of community service and inspiration.
The regatta is one of the Anacostia River's premiere annual events. There is great viewing to be had between the 11th Street Bridge and the John Phillips Sousa Bridge. All are welcome to watch, and to learn to row with Capital Rowing Club.
