The Battle of Bladensburg Encampment returns with a bang this year as War of 1812 troops ready the cannon and prepare for battle! Beginning at 12 p.m. on August 11, step back into 1814 with an afternoon of battle reenactments, hands-on demos, children’s activities, archeology, and more on the Riversdale grounds. Immerse yourself in living history with Ship’s Company (American maritime history, 1775–1865), Aisquith’s Sharp Shooters, the Frederick County Militia, and Barney’s Flotilla (portrayed by the Hispanics in History Cultural Organization). You might even be recruited to join the militia! Riversdale’s Kitchen Guild will offer tasty treats for purchase and Scouts should contact us for details about earning a badge.
Battle of Bladensburg festivities are free, but guests can get the full Riversdale experience with a tour of the house for $3.
